Some Details

My building interest started at a young age. I grew up having access to a woodworking shop and blacksmith forge at my grandparents across the road from my home in rural northern Manitoba. I spent much of my time building my own toys, swords, bikes, guitars, etc. My other grandfather taught violin, and gave me my first fiddle. As I grew, I realized that my artistic ability and intuitive understanding of materials were best suited for work in luthierie. I started by getting guitarmaking instruction in Boston and Winnipeg, and violin-making training from Boyd Poulson. Boyd taught me much about the details of the great Cremonese instruments and oil varnishes. I’ve also had years of repair and restoration experience in the Phoenix area with many local and international professional string players as clients and friends.

My instruments have a refined visual presence and an exceptional tonal quality as described by players. The characteristics of the ideal violin are different for different players and the violins I make each have their own character as per the goal, but they all have quality and power. I prefer to have the instruments speak for themselves. You are welcome to contact me to arrange a trial.
